Additional Programs & Experiences

Hands On Learning

Hands on Learning (HoL) is a practical in-school program that caters to the different ways young people learn, helping build confidence, engagement and achievement at school. Students thrive learning by doing - developing teamwork, self-discipline and interpersonal skills vital for the 21st Century workforce.

Students build self-esteem, friendships, a sense of belonging and become more content at school. Students work collaboratively to plan, design, problem solve and create meaningful projects that benefit the school and local community.

HoL at Noorat P.S is made up of students from Year 3 to 6 with both boys and girls. They each have a range of talents, needs and interests and practice the vital skills of collaboration, problem solving and communication.

School Camps & Excursions

We conduct a comprehensive school camps program, where students have many opportunities throughout each year to engage in a wide variety of camps and special excursions.

Our camps are organised in conjunction with other local schools, which include Cudgee and Panmure. Each year begins with a school sleepover to build confidence and independence. Later in the year, differing year levels travel to Sovereign Hill, Roses Gap, Anglesea and Kangaroobie. We also have an end-of-year celebration day where our students can have memorable experiences such as surfing sessions and ten-pin bowling.

We have many local excursions where children experience things on offer locally such as the Terang RSL, Gnurad Gundidj School for Student Leadership, walking up Mt. Noorat and other special events that come to our area.

Sports & Cross Country

To ensure our students experience competing in larger environments, we join with other local schools for many sporting events and activities through the year. Our studnets have the opportunity to participate in athletics, cross country, basketball, hockey, AFL and netball sport days.

maintaining relationships & Prep Play

Noorat Primary School joins with Hampden Specialist School, Terang College and St. Thomas’ Primary School throughout the year to ensure a smooth beginning to Foundation. Tours and information nights are organised collaboratively to ensure parents see all schools and have a strong understanding of the school environment.

Throughout the Foundation year, students meet for ‘Prep Play’ to ensure they are able to maintain their Kindergarten friendships. These sessions are valuable and highly enjoyed by all.

1:1 iPads

At Noorat P.S we integrate the use of iPads and technology into lessons as a teaching tool to add value to the learning and content. We allocate each child in Foundation to Year 2 their own school-owned iPad to enhance their learning. Students learn responsibility by bring their own iPads in Year 3.

We are an eSmart School which means we teach our students how to be safe and responsible users of technology. Students are only permitted to use iPads and the internet as directed by the teacher and are monitored closely, and supported to understand the expectations for appropriate iPad use.

3D Printer

We have a high tech MakerBot Replicator+ 3D printer. MakerBot's award-winning desktop 3D printer is engineered for fast and reliable 3D printing. Students use their iPads with the MakerBot software to pair and print their designs.

Students use it to plan and ‘print’ their own designs as part of our STEM program.

Speech Pathologists in schools (SPiS)

At Noorat Primary School, we are part of the ‘Speech Pathologists in Schools (SPiS) project. Data suggests that around 15% of children entering primary school has speech and language needs. We work closely with professionals to give our students better access to speech pathology services, as well as building our teacher understanding, skill and confidence to best support children who have speech, language and communication needs.

Oral language is key to learning to read and write, and is critical for supporting the development of children’s early literacy skills. A lack of proficient literacy has far reaching consequence for students and society.
