The school's main aim is to provide all students with the opportunity to achieve their best in all areas of the curriculum in a caring, supportive environment. The nine domains of the Victorian Essential Learnings Standards form the nucleus of the curriculum and grade levels plan in teams to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum. The use of Learning Technologies in curriculum delivery is a high priority and all classrooms and specialist areas have Internet and E-Mail access. Our school community view the development of basic skills in Literacy and Numeracy as very important. Specialist areas include Art, Music, P.E., L.O.T.E., Science and Library. Currently our support programs include the very successful Reading Recovery program and Integration. Our Annual Concert highlights the merging of all aspects of the curriculum.
Specialist Classes
Your child will have Art, Physical Education, Science, L.O.T.E. and Music classes in specialised rooms or the playground. Reading Recovery operates at Grade One level. We also have an Integration Teacher in every room. These programs can change from year to year.
Art/Craft
All children will have an art/craft lesson each week in the Art room with the Art/Craft teacher. Children will require an art smock - one of Mum or Dad's old shirts is quite suitable.
Library
All children are encouraged to borrow books from the school library. Please read these books to your child and share the enjoyment of reading. Children require a Library bag to protect borrowed books. Students in Year Prep – 3 receive formal weekly Library lessons.
Book Club
Ashton Scholastic Book Services provide good books at reasonable prices throughout the year. It is not necessary to purchase any of these books, it is a matter of personal choice.
Terang Public Library also has an excellent range of books and children are encouraged to join the library and use its services.
Physical Education
Children participate in regular Physical Education activities. These activities include fitness, skill development, team sports, inter-school sports. All children are expected to participate, if however there is a reason your child cannot participate a note is required. During term four all students participate in our intensive indoor swimming program over two weeks.
Our Bike Education Program is run for students in Years 3-6 and provides a very keen practical focus on road safety and bike education.
Music
A specialist Music Program is run across all grade levels. In addition to the normal program children may participate in music electives, which include; School Band, Choir and Recorder.
We also offer optional private instrumental program in a number of instruments. Details of these are available from the school.
Music highlights for the year include: School Concert, Weekly Assemblies, Eisteddfods, Awards and Carols Evening as well as regular performances of the school's musical groups within our community.
Learning Technologies
Computers & Technology are becoming an ever increasing part of our every day lives. To help children to become familiar with these technologies we are using computers and the Internet to enhance teaching and learning at Noorat Primary. We currently have an Interactive Smartboard in every classroom and at least four Multimedia computers set up in every classroom which allows children to access CD/DVDs and a variety of programs. Computers are networked in each room allowing access to the Internet and laser printer and each student has their own email address. We also have the technology to scan pictures and have digital cameras that provide instant images that children can use in their work. Technology is implemented across all the Domains including specialist programs such as Music, Visual Arts and Library. The implementation of learning technologies throughout the school is an area that we are constantly increasing and improving.
